5 Tips to Have an Amazing Home Hair Care Routine

At Innovate Salon Academy, we understand that these times have been difficult as we’ve all tried to adjust. With many people in quarantine and news constantly changing, it feels like there’s a lot that is out of our control. So let’s try and stay positive and focus on something you can control – your hair care routine! After all, being cooped up in your house doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of things you can do to make sure you come out of this with amazing locks. Here are five tips for your home hair care routine!
Wash Your Hair Less Often
This should be an easy one if you’re limiting how much time you spend outside. A lot of people often hear this tip but are hesitant to try it because they may have hair that’s more prone to become oily. Now is the perfect opportunity to let your hair slowly become used to not being washed every day. Once you get into this routine, you’ll start to notice your hair becoming shinier and less frizzy because you’re not stripping it of the essential oils your hair needs.
Don’t forget that when you do take a shower, you should spend time combing gently through your hair. Your hair is especially weak and likely to break when it’s wet. Start from the bottom and slowly work your way to the roots for best results.
Condition, Condition, Condition
We can’t stress enough how important this step is for your home hair care routine. From detangling your strands to giving your hair the extra moisture it needs, this is something you don’t want to skip while staying home.
It’s a good idea to condition your hair after showering but you should also start considering deep conditioning. Start by wetting your hair and applying the conditioner evenly throughout your hair. Then add heat either with warm water or a hair steamer, and let your hair set with the layer on for at least 10 minutes.
Keep up a regular conditioning schedule and you’re sure to see a difference!
Apply a Hair Mask
It’s safe to say that we all need to take some time to relax right now. Why not try a hair mask? It feels amazing and it also helps your hair in multiple ways. Along with hydrating and moisturizing your hair, the mask also helps with shine and strength. Not to mention, it will leave you smelling like you just got out of the spa! You can buy a hair mask or make your own with your favorite butters, oils, and other nourishing ingredients.
Avoid the Heat
Use being at home to give your hair a much-needed break from your straighteners, curling irons, or any other heat-styling tool. Using all these too much can cause some serious heat damage like dry hair or split ends. Instead, try natural styling techniques like braiding your wet hair overnight or pinning it up.
Add More Vitamins to Your Diet
Vitamins are a necessary part of making sure your body stays healthy. We should all be introducing a more balanced diet that helps us from getting sick during this time. But did you know that vitamins also contribute to your hair’s health? Vitamin D plays a major role in helping your hair grow new follicles.
Getting enough sunlight is the best source of vitamin D but with quarantine in effect, you may not be getting enough of these essential vitamins. Sure, you may go outside for walks and other activities, but you’re definitely going to need more. Make sure to incorporate foods like avocados, cheese, and mushrooms into your diet.
